Welcome onBoard!

This is your ‘one stop’ site to help you as a community legal clinic board member fulfill your governance role.

The site has been designed by the members of the Board Supports Working Group (BSWG), a group of volunteer board members just like yourself. We are committed to providing our fellow board members with the tools, training and education they need to effectively govern.

What's New:

Are you interested in joining the BSWG?  The BSWG is comprised of 10 members, 8 of whom are community clinic board members.  Starting in 2010 there will be at least one vacancy in the group.  If you would like to learn more about joining the BSWG click here.

Did you know that the Board Supports Working Group has launched a new set of Bite Size Pieces covering ED Evaluation?  Please visit our Training Tools page and click on 'Bite Size Pieces' to see the details of all five new modules!

The BSWG still has a small supply of Mel Gill's book Governing for Results, a Director's Guide to Good Governance at the great price of $20 (including mailing). To order, write to admin@onboardlegalclinics.org!

What's Happening:

The BSWG co-chairs are pleased to announce that the Community Advocacy & Legal Centre is the winner of the Bright Ideas contest.  The clinic will soon take possession of a new Dell digital laptop projector. The winning entry focused on board assessment – a ‘hot topic’ of many not-for-profit boards these days.

The co-chairs would also like to thank the volunteer panel who reviewed all the ideas submitted:

  • Mel Gill, author of the best-selling book Governing for Results a Director’s Guide to Good Governance
  • Ruth Lawson, former General Counsel and Advisor to the Board of Legal Aid Ontario
  • Richard Lynn, Chair of the Board, Chatham Kent Clinic & member of ACLCO executive

Bright Ideas are best practices submitted to the BSWG by clinic boards across the province for posting on the BSWG website. In all, ten great ideas were submitted for review.  Visit our Training Tools page and click on 'Bright Ideas' to review these and other great ideas!
